Hello! I am planning a vacation to Palau, and while there, I would love to try the local special Fruit Bat Soup. I just wanted to ask, which restaurants sell bat soup, and how is it normally prepared? Also, can you eat the wings? I would like to taste it, but am not sure if you can actually eat the wing membranes. Thanks!
Dragon Tai up the hill is the only place I ever saw it. It is prepared with a pie crust and (yuck) the head sticking out. I don't remember what we ate- whatever was there. We were sharing it with a pair of very very drunken tourists from Japan. It was actually very good- like chicken (what else) marinated from the inside. But you do have to get over the head. | 1
There are several fruit bat dishes at the Penthouse Hotel restaurant in Koror, but I don't remember if bat soup was one of them. But you can definitely find traditionally prepared bat and other local foods, such as taro soup and various types of crab. | 2
