Budget accommodation in Palau & YapCountry forums / Pacific Islands & Papua New Guinea / Palau
Hi there, Does any 1 know any budget accommodation in Palau as well as Yap island ? I checked net but found all very expensive. Moreover very less info is available on internet about these two places. Also is there any public transportation between Koror and Peleliu ? Any accommodation at Peleliu ? Thank you
Don't know about Yap but I'm looking infos on Palau as well for a possible trip in november. So far the cheapest accomodation I have found is DW Motel in Koror. From my current research Palau is definitely an expensive destination, even more so for scuba diving: I've never seen similar prices for diving anywhere in the world, including French Polynesia, Maldives and other high-end destinations. Ouch... Emailing with some operators there, I was told there is indeed a public ferry from Koror and Peleliu but it runs only on certain days so for the schedule you better ask directly. For accomodation in Peleliu look at Peleliu Adventures site, they have listed some, including their new Adventurers Inn. | 1
You could also check out Lehn's Motel in Koror - there are some reviews on tripadvisor - some units have basic kitchens that would save some money on eating out(although we found it was so cheap to eat out we didn't cook for ourselves very often). Excursions are mega expensive but definitely worth it! We snorkel only and would rate Palau second, only behind Raja Ampat. The coral and fish life is amazing - I got over my fear of sharks there - you see so many it just becomes ho-hum. | 2
Thanx, This was my experience. I Palau I stayed at Lehn's motel for all 5 days. Earlier they had quoted me rate of US $ 70+ a night by email so I didn't confirm them. I did walk in and paid US $ 40 a night for single room which saved me a lot. Palau is expensive but quite beautiful place specially Rock islands. In Yap I stayed at ESA bay view for 4 days and paid US $ 74 a night for single room as walk in. Free Wi-fi in reception and nice location. Yap is not so beautiful naturally but good place if you want to swim with Manta rays. Yap is one of the most quietest place I have been. United Airlines has nightly flights @ Palau and Yap. It means I paid twice for same day on two occasion. | 3
Hi there. I don't know about Yap, but there are a few options for budget accommodation on Palau. There's one hostel called Ms. Pinetree's for about $35/night for a dorm but there's also some cheap options on Airbnb. We stayed in an Airbnb in Peleliu as well. I found this article here to be really helpful when planning our trip: http://outofyourcomfortzone.net/the-ultimate-guide-to-budget-travel-in-palau/ The site also has the only schedule online for the public ferries between the islands that I've been able to find. Enjoy your trip to Palau! | 4
