Can you recommend the divesites in Palau?

Country forums / Pacific Islands & Papua New Guinea / Palau

Hi,
we are going to Palau for 1 week. My husband doesn't dive, but I would want to dive there.
What divesites would you recommend there? I am thinking of taking 4-6 dives (I know it is too few in a place like Palau, but I probably won't be able to afford too many).

I am a certified PADI Rescue diver.

I doubt that you would be disappointed by any of them. does your husband snorkel? Many of the divesites are also wonderful snorkeling. The Blue Hole not so much. But trips usually go to several a day. They change from day to day where they are going. The Blue Hole is great, the big drop off is great. I'm not good at remember the specific names of them and it has been a while so I am sure there are new ones, but you should include Jelly Fish Lake and Clam City for sure- both snorkeling. And just the trip out to most of the divesites goes out through the rock islands so your husband won't be bored.

Blue Corner is probably the most famous one, and with good reason, but can get a little crowded if a few boats send their divers in at the same time.

Ulong Channel, German Channel and Blue Holes are all also amazing.

To be honest though unless you have a private guide, and you say you're only diving a few days, you'll probably end up going wherever the dive boat crew have already decided on. I wouldn't worry too much though: all the sites are great and they tend to do the 'big' ones on a fairly frequent basis. I dived there for 10 days earlier this year and ended up doing Blue Corner 3 times and the other 2 above twice.

If your other half doesn't dive I would seriously think about spending at least one day doing the kayaking trip to the Rock Islands; apparently it's pretty cruisey and not at all hard work. Many of the dive trips include Jellyfish Lake on some days (for an extra charge of course!) so you can do your day's diving and visit the lake on the way back to Koror; it definitely is a don't miss experience and you are only allowed to snorkel, not dive, at the lake itself.

Just make sure you dive Blue Corner more than once. It's just so overwhelming that you can't take in everything in one dive. It's truly amazing! And dive German Channel if you'd like to see mantas :) otherwise all the other sites are wonderful.

A vote for Chandelier Cave - usually done as a third dive as it's shallow.

Actually I'd also do Iro - world class wreck
