Caroline's in Palau

Country forums / Pacific Islands & Papua New Guinea / Palau

Hi all,

My fiancee and i will be visiting Palau in Mid March and like the look of Carolines. I have emailed twice to no avail.

Do they still exist? Does anyone have new contact info for them?

If not, anyone recommend any other hotels which are similar. We plan to doa few days in the expensive one at the end of our trip.

Oh, and the future Mrs also wants to see the dolphins. Is it worth it?

Many thanks

Well their web site is up and I have heard nothing to the contrary, so all the contact information I have is per the web site. Perhaps they are just a bit slow answering E-mails.

Carolines Resort is somewhat unique as to location and small intimate feel, so I would try to reach them again before looking elsewhere. If no reply, my next suggestion would be Palau Plantation Resort or the venerable Palau Pacific Resort, two very different but romantic selections.

I'm not sure which locaton you are refering to as, "the expensive one," Palau Royal Resort?

I think Dolphins Pacific is a worthwhile trip and good value. Assuming you are not from a location that thrives with dolhins, the basic program is well done. I did not swim with the dolphins and that option is a bit pricey.

I'm not familiar with the Carolines. Don't hold your breath as far as an email reply goes. Pretty typical with this part of the world. I've stayed at the Penthouse Hotel several times and can recommend it. I'm not sure what you're looking for though. Penthouse does airport pick up, free internet, TV, hot shower, and a nice room for about $70 (i think). Len's Apartments are cheaper apartment style rooms. For more upscale try Palau Pacific Resort or Palau Royal Resort. Had a friend with young children who did the dolphin thing and they said it was fun. Can't say from personal experience though. Have fun, Palau is great!

Telephone them- emails and computers are often iffy in the tropics. Or book online. They speak English. I assume by the "expensive one" that you mean the Palau Pacific Resort. Wonderful setting and staffed by Palauans- a real plus. And the only one in Koror with a beach, although it is manmade on an old Japanese seaplane landing site. And I know that other places say they have a beach- but this is a real one. And great snorkeling right there. We have seen seahorses, octopus, flatfish, blue starfish (nasty things), yellowfin, and all manor of reef fish there. My favorite thing in the world is to go out at about 6am when the sun is at just the right angle to snorkel around- the sun often hits the water and forms millions of tiny rainbows on the surface. But you will have all the ammenities of the PPR available to you if you stay at the Carolinas. The dolphin thing is fun- nice ride over and your basic play with the dolphins.

I stayed at the Carolines in July and they were OK, but not the sharpest tools in the box. Best to phone rather than wait on an email that they never have received. We also took advatage of the PP amenities and the beach as mentioned is great. The carolines is good only for sleeping, nothing else to do there otherwise unless you want to wander around trying to find all the old Japanese artillery. The food there is awful.

I took my kids to the dolphin encounter and they loved it so much my wife took them back the next day. It is well organised and cheapish as long as you don't pay for a photo taken by neco marine which costs the earth.
