Fees in PalauCountry forums / Pacific Islands & Papua New Guinea / Palau
Just realizing the numerous fees which are levied on guests who arrive in, and enjoy Palau. 1) I noticed that there is a $100 per person "Palau Pristine Paradise Environmental Fee (PPEF)" which I paid when I booked my air ticket. 2) Now I am being told that to visit Jellyfish Lake I need to buy an extra $100 per person "Permit" which is in addition to the cost of the actual tour? And the two $100 fees noted above are separate and additive? Wow!
Yes. If no changes from when I was there in late 2017 (when the Jellyfish Lake was closed to tourism) then you can also expect to have to pay a $50 airport departure tax, $100 Rock Islands permit fee (though maybe the Jellyfish Lake permit covers this?) and between $5 and $25 per permit for some of the 'sights' on Babeldoab Island (though only if there is someone there to collect- which isn't always the case). All on top of the cost of a tour. You can save some money by exploring Babeldoab by a rental car; one whole day is enough time to see the main island and the roads are generally well kept and virtually empty. | 1
