From Palau to Yap

Country forums / Pacific Islands & Papua New Guinea / Palau

My friend and I are planning on going to Palau and Yap in the second week of August - trying to figure out logistics at the moment. I'm working in Manila at the moment so we're planning on flying asian spirit from here and I'm now looking at how to go from Palau to Yap.

I've found the few flights run by Continental but I was wondering if there was any other mode of transport (boat, helicopter, superhero) to get between to two - the flights are, to say the least, pricy so investigating other options can't hurt.

Also, as I've heard that credit cards are only really accepted in hotels etc how much petty cash should we bring (USD) for around five days in each place?

I'm really looking forward to Yap - the cultural tours look fantastic and will be doing a little diving. The plan for Palau is mostly diving but I've not really looked into it more as yet.

Any advice would be great! There are lots of sites with general information but sometimes it's easier just to ask directly!

go to the top of this branch and set the country to Palau, and later to FSM. That will give you only the related posts. Read those to save yourself a lot of time.

As far as flights, I would suggest that you look into using only Continental since I would think that the combined Manila-Palau-Yap and return flights are cheaper than two airlines. The Palau-Yap alone is quite expensive. And short of going by shark, you will have to fly between the two.

You have hear wrong about credit cards. They are accepted in many places- many or most restaurants, for diving, etc etc.

Hello!

When I visited Micronesia in January/February 2006 several of the hotels I stayed at did NOT accept credit cards. One of them was ESA Bayview in Yap.
Check with your prefered hotel in advance.

There are ATMs in Koror town.
