Getting to Palau from Western Europe; Too expensive!

Country forums / Pacific Islands & Papua New Guinea / Palau

Howdy all,

Just doing a bit of research into the possibility of heading to Palau in late July for a couple of weeks for diving. Heading from Ireland and I cant believe the prices im being quoted. 2,500 - 4,000 Euro! Mental stuff, considering I got a flight to Jakarta for 780 Euro a little under 3 years ago.

So Im wondering if anyone has any info on any cheaper alternatives, I dont mind spending a day or two extra traveling there in order to safe a few quid.

Cheers!

You can fly to Solomon Islands out of Brisbane Queensland (cheapest is probably Pacific Blue)
You can get very cheap fares from Stanstead, London to Gold Coast via Kuala Lumpur, and a bus from Gold Coast to Brisbane airport.

You are at the mercy of Continental if you want to visit Palau. See the FAQ section of this forum for info on which airline flies to which countries.

2

best prices for flights are with continental from Manilla or otherwise Seoul. You should be able to find a return flight for 1200-1500 Euro total (including the leg to Europe).

Hi!

Asiana sometimes has reasonably priced flights from London, Paris and Frankfurt via Seoul in South Korea ... when I checked a few weeks ago, it was 920 Euros from Frankfurt.
I didnt find this fare on their website though, but through an online booking machine ...

You will most likely need to get to Manila first, which is probably cheapest flying with Air Asia from Paris via Kuala Lumpur but check other airlines, too.
From Manila to Palau it should be around 500 Euro RT or maybe a bit less, with Continental being the only option, and its fares often fluctuating wildly and irrationally.

Check out Delta- they now have flights to Palau via Japan and their tickets seemed cheaper when I priced them recently.

Hello

Give ChinaAirlines a try - the Taipei/ Taiwan based airline.

They are flying twice a week from Taipei to Koror, many connections from/ to
Europe.
You probably have to call them, their online-booking didn't allow such a combination
from Europe if memory serves me right.
Was a very good and fairly cheap option - more than one year ago.

We got very inexpensive tickets to Manila from London, then you pay whatever Continental wants to charge. But Manila is often really cheap so it balances out.

Interesting that delta has been allowed into Palau- wonder how long that will last.

Delta has flights to Palau??? This is worth checking out.

ETA: Was able to price a flight from Houston to Palau (via Seattle and Japan) for $1898 (Continental usually runs around $2000 from IAH). If you live on the West Coast, this could be a cheaper alternative. Granted, the flying time ends up being 46 hours instead of 20 hours and you get no Yap layover, but think of the frequent flier miles :).

Just checked and it seems to be really a Delta flight not a codeshare.
They also fly to Saipan and Guam.

However, as a RT from Tokyo to Palau seems to cost around $1500 (MUCH more than Continental from Manila), this is unlikely to be a cheap route for those coming from Europe.

I recently booked a RT Los Angeles - Majuro - Palau - Yap - San Francisco on Continentals web page for just over 1500$ including all taxes. You can have six legs which gives five stop overs so I could have added two more islands.

I agree with #3 but from Eire. I would link to a major hub like CDG, LHR or FRA using Ryanair or Easyjet. Then from those hubs head to MNL or Manila (which should cost you ~700-900E. Manila, in general, has the cheapest link to Palau. This leg should cost you another 400-600E provided its not last minute.
