| elmoroccan23:14 UTC18 Jul 2007 | Hi there, I'll be in Hong kong for 6 months starting next January I was thinking of heading south east to Palau. What's the cheapest way to get there? What's the minimum amount of time i should spend there to make it worthwhile? How much money should i allow per day (i am a student packpacker)? Do they deliver visas for canadian passeport upon arrival? I am pretty tight on time and money any help! Cheers

| philk19:54 UTC30 Jul 2007 | cheapest way (and a pain) is to catch a flight to Manila (any airline, take your pick, all pretty cheap as it is only 1.5 hour flight), then catch an Asian spirit flight to Koror via Cebu. It is the cheapest way.
Other options include flying FAT via Taipei or Continental via Guam, but both work out more expensive.
Asian spirit have an office outside the domestic teerminal in Manila. Don't know about Canadian passports, sorry.
If you are diving then I reckon anytime longer than a week is good. If you are a WW2/pacific war buff then you may find a lot more to interest you as the place is littered with old rusting japanese artillery guns, AAA guns, tanks, caves systems etc.
Food is quite cheap and you get US size portions.
Hope this helps.

| travelrewards23:52 UTC02 Aug 2007 | I fly from the states so I don't know the best flight options from Hong Kong, but...
In Koror, a cheap place to stay is Lehns, which is still not cheap by Southeast Asian hostel standards, but the cheapest you'll find. There is also the Tree D Motel, but I never stayed there. Homestays in Palau are pretty common and really good way to see the different islands. Visit the PVA (Palau Visitors Authority) in Koror for ideas on kayak tours, diving, homestays etc. They have a website and maybe you can arrange homestays in advance - PVA
I enjoyed Babeldoap, Kayangel, and Pelileiu islands. Also took a 4 day sea kayaking trip to the rock islands area which was the best part of the trip. Visiting Kayangel requires work in advance to ensure a permit - don't expect to get anywhere outside of Koror on a moments notice.
