Local scene

Will be in Palau for about a week in 2-3 days. How's the local scene there as in hanging out with locals and practicing Palauan, etc?

I'm thinking catch a cab from the airport to the Pinetree hostel and then try to find some locals to connect with and explore around cheaply before moving on to Yap. Thoughts?
