nano-sim in Palau

Country forums / Pacific Islands & Papua New Guinea / Palau

Hello,

Anyone know if an iphone5 can get a nano-sim to work with Palaunet in Palau? Or a micro-sim from Palaunet should work too since it's possible to cut yourself a nano-sim from a micro.

Thanks,

John

Hi There,

I'm not totally sure what the iphone is using these days for SIM cards - but I would find it highly unlikely that Palaunet will have anything other than the basic SIM card that non-smart phones use. Few people in Palau have any sort of smart phone and there is no availability of mobile internet (other than finding a wifi hotspot - which is actually a relatively new addition in the last few years).
That said, I do know of at least one American that brought her Iphone and was able to get it to work on the cell network (that was probably about 2 years ago now). I remember it being quite a hassle to get it unlocked and able to be used - your best bet is to find a cheap-y old flip phone and get ready to step back into the days of old :-) (on the upside to this, when your phone ends up swimming in the ocean - something that seems to happen at a high frequency - it hurts a lot less if it isn't the iphone!)

Good luck! :-)

Keep in mind that even if you do find some kind of phone solution, you are unlikely to have any service on Pelilu or Kayangel (unless there has been some major infrastructure overhaul in the past two years).

There is, something new that started around the beginning of this year...just pricey and slow.
