Palau

Country forums / Pacific Islands & Papua New Guinea / Palau

I just applied for a job in Palau.

where is it? What's the lifestyle like?
Golf?
cost of living?
natives friendly?
How does it compare with Tonga?

You applied for a job NOT knowing a thing about it?!?! Interesting??

1

I'm adventurous.

Where is it? Lord you really don't have any clues. If I said it was just north of greenland would you be surprised? It in fact is about half way between Manila and Guam. And if you don't know where they are then you need to think hard about this.

Golf- not that I know of. The lifestyle is laid back although howlies are expected to work hard. The cost of living is astonishingly high, as it is all through Micronesia. The natives rarely hunt heads any longer, although there are still the traditional patios for the beheading ceremony. The natives are also very smart, and astute. Many are also very well traveled. It runs on island time and "customs" can interfere will productivity. The ground is red spotchy with betelnut, and many people you speak with will have a large wad in their mouths and spit often into a can or bottle if not the gound. I love it- lived there for 3 years and would love to go back to long periods of time. Have NO idea how it compares to Tonga as I haven't been to Tonga.

What kind of job? I could say more if I knew what you were considering.

3

Oh yes- it is also very political- the Palauans have a real lawyerly streak= and they are good at it.

Don't be a fuchwhit. I know its in the South pacific, and you know I lived in Tonga. Exactly where would be a decent response.

It in fact is about half way between Manila and Guam

Attaboy! That's more polite.

And if you don't know where they are then you need to think hard about+ +this.

don't be a whatsit, now.

For the rest of your post, thanks. ;-)

The job is in Hospitality. managing a resort.

My favorite place in the world. Lets call a truce- I'm not into an ongoing battle. And why ever would I know that you lived in Tonga? People do come on here who decide to move to some unknown island, not knowing a thing about it, never having traveled in the Pacific, and "wonder what it is like".

Nevertheless, if you want info about the PPR, I have stayed at there for probably 3 months over the years, was a member for 3 years, have known many people who work there, and can tell you a lot about it. PM me if you want info.

6

And besides, if you do get the job, we will certainly meet since I really NEED to go back to Palau soon- I am homesick. And I am well known at the PPR.

7

And why ever would I know that you lived in Tonga?

Because I had it in my head that Palau was in the South Pacific, and everybody in the SP forum knows of the fun I had with a knife once. OK, we'll scrub that booboo of mine.

People do come on here who decide to move to some unknown island, not+ +knowing a thing about it, never having traveled in the Pacific, and "wonder what it is like".

I lived in Tonga for a short time. I got confused about Palau being in the SP, not the NP. Jesus, what is it with you?

Please don't help me any more.

(But thanks for your comments so far.)

come on Harry, she's only trying to help.

I have missed something- sorry I am not aware of everyones history. EVERYONE does not know what you are talking about-for example, I don't.

If you find my comments so difficult, you really don't want to be in Palau. The ability to negotiate politics is critical.

10

FWIW I have met Palauns in Tonga-northern Tonga.

Also have heard there are very few Chinese in Palau but that may have changed.

11

You have to look- I believe there is a colony on balbedaob/ But again I seem to have missed something- what is the relevance?

12

"again I seem to have missed something"
We know, we know.....

If you find my comments so difficult, you really don't want to be in Palau.

If the people in Palau are as rude as you, then I don't want to go.

Also have heard there are very few Chinese in Palau but that may have+ +changed.

Ah, good, I am allergic to knives.

14

so........did you get the job?

15

Going to Palau in three weeks. Will we see you at the PPR?
