Palau and Kava?

Country forums / Pacific Islands & Papua New Guinea / Palau

Hey all,

This might be a bit of strange question to ask, but I was wondering what if any place kava root drinking might have in Palauan society. I'm headed there in a few weeks, and I figured that if kava is a thing there it might be worth it to experience it. I know the root wasn't huge in Palau like it was in other areas of the South Pacific until recently, and I can't seem to find any information about if there's normal kava bars in Palau like you'd find in Port Vila in Vanuatu or if it's used in a more traditional manner as you might see on Fiji. I don't quite want to seek it out if it's an especially sketching thing to do in Palau either; basically I'm completely in the dark about the topic and Palau. Any info would be greatly appreciated! Thanks!

someone who has been there says no kava bars in Palau
