Palau budget accommodation - advice needed

Country forums / Pacific Islands & Papua New Guinea / Palau

Hi!
I am going to Palau in November. I was recommended to stay at Lehns Motel, DW Hotel or Tree-D Motel (budget range, around 40$ for a single).
I tried to contact these places, but the email-address for Tree-D-Motel and DW Hotel did not work (I also checked with PVA)
I need to arrange accommodation at least for the first night.
All advice or correct email addresses will be appreciated.
Which place would you recommend?
Does Sam´s provide good service (might need some help with new gear)?
Cheers,
Liberty

Sams is great. As far as the other places- keep trying, or pick up the telephone and call. They speak English. I don't have recommendations- others have stayed at these and either search here or wait and someone will sit up and take notice.

E-mail in the South Pacific is substantially more expensive than more developed areas, so they check E-mail far less often. Many places may not even have a computer and rely on a trip to the occasional visit to the internet cafe to check their messages. Sometimes it is easier to phone or fax, as 5 Waldos suggests, I assume you speak English.

Hi!
Checking email is not the question, I only receive "failure notices" when trying to email. Thus, the addresses are just invalid.
Lehns´ answered quickly...
By the way, Lehns offers much cheaper rates than the packages available with Sam´s.

Ding ding ding ding- much cheaper rates for diving? I don't know much about Lehns, but significantly cheaper rates someplace where everyone is about the same price raises concerns to me anyway. I know of no-one who has every gone diving with Lehns. They might be magnificent, but do keep this in mind. Safety is a big issue in diving. And we had a couple of rather unpleasant occurances with dive outfits while I lived in Palau. And ran into some nasty stuff in the Red Sea too. Just a heads up.

No, I don want to dive with Lehns. But I was offered a single at Lehns for 45USD a night by Sam´s as part of their package, while Lehns offers a 33USD discounted rate.
By the way, I knew about safety issues. Thus, which shops have a good reputation?

Liberty

Sams is good. Especially if you ar next door.

Rooms are different- you might end up bitten or dirty but most likely not dead.

I realize that almost all divers know about the safety issues- wasn't trying to be in any way insulting, just the mother in me coming out.

Thank you.
Safety and service are paramount, particularly as I am not travelling with a dive buddy.
Is Lehns safe, clean and in a central location?
People liked Tree-D-Motel, but I could not find out email yet...

Liberty

Well it does appear that the tree-d web site is not functioning If you go to the Palau Visitors Authority web site, under "where to stay" the rates for tree-d are US$38.50 for single and US$44,00 for two beds. The E-mail address is treed@palaunet.com

Have a great trip!
