Palau from Taiwan

Country forums / Pacific Islands & Papua New Guinea / Palau

Flights from Taiwan to Palau were around 20.000 Taiwan Dollar when I made my booking
( 1 Euro = 47 TD as of Feb. 2008 ). It was sort of high season because of the Chinese New Year though. Far Eastern Air ( FAT) has five flights per week currently.
Not cheap, but there is not much competition for flights to Palau. Local people in Palau were saying that Cebu Pacific Air looks into going to Koror from the Philippines. This will not happen before Summer 2008 though, if ever. After Asian Spirit stoped serving that route Continental raised their prices immediately.

Taiwan is not bad for a bit of travelling really with nice mountain scenery and hiking.

In Palau I really liked Peleliu, whereas Koror was a bit too busy for me. No beaches on Koror except for artificial ones at resorts. And there are quite a few Japanese and Taiwanese package tourists around in Koror. Good restaurants though.

Peleliu is laid back and slow, good for a lazy backpacker and non-diver like me. Perfect to rent a bike and explore a bit. Good food at Storyboard, they rent kayaks as well. Best bikes at Dolphin Bay. Good swimming at the South dock at any tide.
