Palau in November

Country forums / Pacific Islands & Papua New Guinea / Palau

Hi!
I thought about going diving in November in Palau. Is that a recommended time for good diving conditions and big stuff? I guess it is low season.
Would you stay in Koror or Peliliu?
It will be a budget trip (about 1-2 week). Where would you suggest to stay, to eat and whom to dive with? Recommendations about cheap deals will be appreciated. I thought about a stopover in the Philippines to get into diving and enjoy the beach.

Liberty

Most diving leaves from Koror- Peliliu is best for it's WWII remains. Recommend Sam's for diving- local guy and good people. Why don't you do a search of this branch to see what we have already said, and come back with questions.

Hi!
I have searched about the budget options and Palau in general here on TT.
But is November a good time for diving with big stuff at all?
Should I book budget accommodation in advance?
Are there plenty of boats on the same spot even

Liberty

Not sure what you mean diving with big stuff- as in sharks and large fish? Then yes- they are there all year. The mantas are a relatively new phonomena so I am not sure what their schedule is. And there are several spots where there are lots of boats- the better known spots of course. Not dozens, but enough. I'm not sure whether it is necessary to book in advance- we stayed at the resort most of the time as we were considered local and we loved it too much to stay any place else. Usually you can book ahead and then if you don't like it, cut out without a penalty.

Thank you.
Can you get a cheaper deal if booking accommodation for the whole week?
Can you recommend one of the budget places?
And do the hotels send representatives to meet each flight or do you have to book in advance to get a complimentary airport transfer?
I contacted Samś asking about a dive package for six days in November, but they did not really answer. Do they still offer personalized service?
It is a problem to find a buddy there (I am on my own)?

Liberty

You can usually bargain with the smaller hotel owners- and yes, you often can get a cheaper rate. Most of the hotels do not provide transportation, at least as far as I remember. As far as recommendations- I am somewhat at a loss since I have mostly stayed upscale. But if we keep this post up, someone will chime in. As far as buddy's- I suspect you won't have a hard time finding one- there are often single people booking. And as for Sam- they have gotten very busy and I suspect this may be a particularly busy time, just before the end of the summer holidays. Keep after them, and remember that you are working on island time- everything takes longer. And do you mean they did not answer, or didn't answer your questions. I don't know if they do dive packages as such- just days out diving.

Interesting, I recently contacted them about a kayaking trip and they did not really answer either.
