| liberty0117:22 UTC14 Sep 2007 | Hi! As the plane gets into Koror in the evening and I might want to continue to Peleliu early the next morning, I need to get some cash after arrival at the hotel, particularly as the places in Peleliu do not accept credit cards. Where are there ATMs in Koror? At the airport? Do they accept Maestro/Cirrus? What is the maximum amount of money per withdrawal? Is it safe in Koror until 10pm? Are USD-traveller cheques useful? Are there high surcharges for credit cards? All advice will be appreciated. Cheers, Liberty

You often have to go into the bank to get cash. The only two ATM's I know of are at the Bank of Hawaii and at the shopping plaza on the other side of the street- the 3 story building across the street up the hill a bit across from Surangles. Next door to Yannos. (I know where but forget the name of it.) The cab driver will know. Usually one or the other is working. They have problems in the humidity and often they are down. There certainly might be other ones by now, but you should have some cash. USD traveller checks can be used, and I don't remember any surcharges for credit cards. Check with Bank of Hawaii to see if their ATM's take the cards you have- probably.
Koror is safe at 10pm, although I don't know where you are going. Or what you are planning. How are you getting to Peleliu? Needless to say there are no buses.

| wouter197910:09 UTC15 Sep 2007 | hi 5Waldos,

Tomorrow i will go to Peleliu. Will be good.
I am traveling alone and was wondering what is a good place to meet other travelers?

| 5waldos10:17 UTC15 Sep 2007 | I would think that the restaurant that used to be Pirates Cove is a friendly place- taxi drivers should know where it is. Down towards icebox point. Don't remember what is it called now. The owner is a nice guy. don't know how old you are so don't know what you are looking for.
What are you doing in Peliliu? How are you getting to Peleliu?

| 5waldos10:30 UTC15 Sep 2007 | And when you get to Peleliu- a friend of mine was captain of the ship that brought the big ducks to Peleliu in 1946 or so. He was completely astonished when I showed him the pictures of them, still sitting there in the middle of the island.
You won't see a lot of other travelers in Peleliu. there may be a couple of people around, but would not expect a lot. But if you are comfortable- go visit the terribly nice people at the new clinic there. They are from.......uh......the Cooks? Delightful doc and his wife. And if you run out of junk reading, the storybook has a library and if you are nice and smile a lot at the woman there, she will let you borrow something.
You have had a wonderful sounding trip- did you love Kosrae and Yap? And I really am simply green with envy-

| 5waldos10:32 UTC15 Sep 2007 | They are shooting a second survivor in Palau???? That must be because Jeff Probst is still trying to buy land there. I hope they stick to their guns and don't sell it. I saw the beach he wanted- NO WAY. Gotta save it for folks like my son who is a Palauan.

| liberty0123:50 UTC15 Sep 2007 | Hi, Wouter! Do you know whether the ATM at the airport takes maestro cards? How much is TreeDHotel? Are you diving in Peleliu? Then please let me know about the dive centre. Have fun. Liberty

| papamike02:12 UTC16 Sep 2007 | The Pirates Cove Restaurant that 5 Waldos was talking about sounds like Drop Off at NECCO Marine dock, but it has been a while since I was in Malakal. Another spot on Koror is Velasko Inn, for happy hour. You will find little night life on Peleliu and few fellow visitors, a few beers with fellow travelers is about the limit of socializing.

| 5waldos02:40 UTC16 Sep 2007 | uh...don't think that is is Mike. The guy who owns it is Deitric or something- what I remember is that we both had a terrific fondness for Bell's Turkey Seasoning, for a very odd association for you. Of course- things change quickly in Palau in some ways- the PPR bar is wonderful and picturesque, but not backpacky. Of course by now Wouter is off in peliliu- and you can walk the town in a few. He'll see what he sees there.

| wouter197909:34 UTC21 Sep 2007 | hi Liberty01,
i do not know if the atm at the airport takes maestro cards, but all the athers at the island do, so i guess at the airport also.
TreeDHotel is 35 dollar a night. 38 iclu tax. It is a good hotel, and the people do everything to help you, the only minus is that it is a bit of a walk out to 'cental' Koror. 20 minutes of something.
The storyboard Hotel at Peleliu is good, the lowered their prices and i paid 66 inclu tax. Dolfin bay is nextdoor and the ask 110 inclu tax. Looks like a nice place.
I did not dive at Peleliu but it is supose to be great.
if you have any more questions over Palau you can always ask

| liberty0103:22 UTC22 Sep 2007 | Thank you. Actually, have you dived with Peleliu Divers or Maml Divers? And is Tree D Hotel 38 USD for a single? Do they offer airport pick ups? How much is a taxi from the airport to the hotel? Did you use a guide book? Yours, Liberty
