Places to stay in Koror

Country forums / Pacific Islands & Papua New Guinea / Palau

Hello, we are going to Palau for a week, planning on staying in Koror and doing trips out to the rock islands, etc.

The question is: what are the nice, cheap places currently open? I've heard about the Marine, Penthouse, Tree-D.... Basically, we are looking for a two-person room, shared bath ok, for around 50 (more or less) USD a night.

And if anyone knows any good snorkeling guides, that would be good to know as well.

Thanks for the info!

I stayed at Guest Lodge Motel in 2006. http://www.visit-palau.com/placestostay/hotel_details.cfm?hotelID=E62E7B3E-320B-4EA8-95134F59AD336B0D At that time a more than OK no-frills-place with friendly staff and a very central location in downtown Koror. If I remember correctly I paid somwhere around 50 USD. But as mentioned, that was 4 years ago.

The Palau Visitors Authority website lists just about al there is of accomodation in Palau. http://www.visit-palau.com/placestostay/index.cfm

We stayed at Lehn's Motel in Koror in February in a studio room which had a kitchen and A/C for US$55 a night. They also have cheaper rooms without a kitchen. Check out reviews at tripadvisor.com. E-mails answered promptly and a laundry on site was most welcomed.

I take it you are looking for a snorkel guidebook - we did not have one as most of the snorkeling is done by boat(absolutely amazing!!) - the only offshore we did was at the Palau Pacific Resort (quite good) and by the Riptide Bar and Grill on Malakal Island(so so). There may be information on snorkeling sites in one of the Palau Dive Guides but we don't dive so can't recommend one. Hope this helps!

Thanks for the recommendation on Lehn's, we'll definitely check it out.

As for the snorkeling guide: we have a book, the LP, but was wondering if anyone knew a local who could get us to the nice spots without too many crowds. I've heard that Sam's does a good job. We are not really into diving (certified, but all that equipment distracts from the fun. Plus, it limits your time in the water), just like to spend a few hours floating about with the fauna.

If you send me a PM I'll give you the name of a local you can contact who might be able to do a private snorkeling tour for you.
