Are the rock islands limited to day tours only? if so, how much and what does it include? would love to do some kayaking, snorkeling and scuba diving and if possible to stay on the islands. any thoughts? still havent seen an LP guide for this country.... thanks.
Hello, The common way to stay overnight in the rock islands is to do a self-guided kayaking trip. One of the dive shops offers equipment and a map. The islands have no real facilities--some have a shelter for sleeping. Beware of sharks--I had two that came right up to me when I was in 3 feet of water just feet from shore. Unless something has recently changed, you can only scuba dive from the main islands. There is no infrastructure on the rock islands--they are just tiny uninhabited places. We did our diving from Koror. There was a Peleliu dive shop, but it was for more advanced divers. Look into taking the state ferry to Kayangel. Very few tourists, few cars, and lots of friendly people to chat with. Peleliu is worth a visit for WW2 history (lots of wreckage on the island) When I went (2010), the Papa Mike guide was the most up-to-date, with the Moon guide being the other option. But a book by a Peace Corp volunteer is supposed to have come out since then. | 1
