hi, i am thinking of a trip to palau as i love the outdoors, diving, snorkelling and kayaking. i have done several trips on my own. i do have a preference for backpacker/budget type travel and like to meet other travellers along the way. is palau a good place for solo female? also i do prefer low key less developed resort type islands. thanks if anyone can advise:)
Run a search for silvanocat - she has a link to her travels in Palau as a single female. I haven't seen a post on here from her for awhile - you could try sending her a PM if she accepts them. | 1
Palau is very safe. You'll feel very comfortable. Palau is not a backpacker kind of place in the Khao San Road sense of the word. I met people but they were not "travellers" but locals and expats. There are budget accomodations - see my Camping and Kayaking report linked in my signature line for my recommendation for Koror. Palau is low-key but it is quite developed. Charter loads of Taiwanese, Koreans, and Japanese fly in for package holidays and there are large hotels where they stay. However, strangely, it does not feel really touristy. | 2
I don't think it feels touristy since most people come for the water- in, over, and under. During most days the tourists largely disappear. | 3
