2 days in Port MoresbyCountry forums / Pacific Islands & Papua New Guinea / Papua New Guinea
Hi, I have two days in Port Moresby on a long layover. If at all possible, I'd like to see something in the country (maybe Sogeri Plateau), but would also be content at least seeing a bit of the city. The only tours I can find seem extremely expensive (e.g. $400 per day per person). Is this the standard rate or are there less expensive (but still safe!) options? Looking for 1 day or 2 days. Thanks so much!
you can see the sights around moresby in a day but you need a car and driver - see another of my recent posts for a good suggestion of a company to use the 3 must sees are the national museum, parliament and the nature park - other than that one of the big markets, handicraft shopping, bomana war cemetery, downtown architecture, view from heights above town hanuabada stilt village - get the driver to find a local on the spot to show you around for a small payment - he will probably advise against this unless he has family or wantok there - i would take his advice and maybe just do a drive by have lunch at visin city or a different hotel to where you stay for a change of scene start early and be back well before dark - things tend to close early in moresby for handicrafts the best place is pacifika womens network https://www.facebook.com/Pacifika-Women-Network-Trade-Centre-473868193119800/ Waigani Drive Steamship compound - behind B-Mobile building, 121 Port Moresby, Papua New Guinea, 111 Port Moresby other daytrips to beaches, islands, diving/snorkeling, sailing, forests etc are possible but not easy to organise and can be expensive - if you are doing any of these activities elsewhere then dont bother spend the other day relaxing at your hotel daytime moresby is pretty safe-ish but take the usual precautions as in any city have a great trip ! | 1
