3 days in PNGCountry forums / Pacific Islands & Papua New Guinea / Papua New Guinea
Hello My company is planning to send me to PNG and I was thinking of extending my stay and bringing my wife to the island for about three days, unfortunately we cannot do more. My company has very generously offered to pay for a couple of internal flights on Air Niugini for us and I was wondering what would be the most interesting way to spend about 3 days with this offer in the country.
for such a short trip i would sugest visiting rabaul in new britain - there is the volcano, WW2 history, diving | 1
If you are looking for something where you mix it with the locals, fly into Goroka (some very nice accommodation there), catch a PMV up to Mt Hagen (local bus - you will never forget it for the scenery and the trip itself). Get Pym Memendi from Magic Mountain Lodge to pick you up in Mt Hagen and stay in the cabins in his village (about a half hour out of Hagen). Your kids might be able to spend a day at the school, and you will be in a traditional culture in the midst of some of the most beautiful scenery in the world. Fly out of Hagen. Don't do it if you are an inflexible 5 start sort of guy! | 2
I second Rabaul -- good mix of things to do between the volcanoes, diving/snorkelling, village tours etc. if you're up for them, and decent accommodation/food, etc. | 3
