A bit of planning for PNG!

Country forums / Pacific Islands & Papua New Guinea / Papua New Guinea

HI all
So, first of all - is PNG really that popular at the moment? I read it somewhere else but it doesn't seem like it could be true, haha.

This is the itinerary I'm planning on taking: Flying into Moresby and then straight up to Kavieng for a week or so. Then coming back and either flying straight Mount Hagen and from there, going to Mendi and then to Tari for a week. Either the flying or I'll catch one of the local buses up that way (Is it really that dangerous?) Then from Tari I'll hit Goroka for maybe 5 days and then a bus to Madang for a week. Then from Madang, go to Wewak and some Sepik thing with a local guide. Then onwards to Vanimo and Jayapura.

1) Is this enough time?
2) Is it about right to allocate a day for the travelling I want to do?
3) Would anyone recommend anywhere else? I am heading to Indonesia, the Philippines and hopefully Palau after.
I can have the funds if necessary but really I'd prefer to do it as cheaply as possible.
4) How grunty is this going to be? It's the one trip my girlfriend said I can do alone and I want to quench my thirst for doing something intense.

5) How much is a loaf of bread? A can of tuna? A pack of crackers? A whole fish at the market?

Sorry for the badly written questions :)

Cheers
Adam

I doubt that PNG could be too popular.

Your itinerary is great and takes in all the major attractions and regions. Time seems enough - with lots flying.
I went to Tari by road both ways and it was fine, but ask locally for the latest.
Consider adding Mount Wilhelm.

Hmm, what about non major attractions?
What's the cheapest region?
I'd be pretty okay with going and eating rice and tomato sauce in the highlands for a couple of weeks :O
My girlfriend has given me free license! SHE IS THE ONE! :D:D:D
