I want to make some researches in the old German towns Stephansort and Bogajim south of Madang. There must be an old cemetry and on a little hill the tomb or grave of Curt von Hagen who died in 1897. And there was also a Little Train between Stephansort and Bogajim.
Yes I have been to these places but it was many years ago. I have a photo of Von Hagen's headstone. There is a small memorial to Maclay that was erected by a visiting Russian ship. Quite an interesting area to look around. Some Australian graves dating to when the troops came to oust the Germans around the first world war. There is the remnant of a sisal factory and another place where they processed bark of some sort. I used to know but have now forgotten. The only place you could stay would be Madang or there was a timber camp down in that area in the past few years. The villagers are good people and you could possibly rough it with them and pay a little. | 1
