Best mosquito repellent?

Country forums / Pacific Islands & Papua New Guinea / Papua New Guinea

Does anyone have any experience about mosquito repellents that are really good for the jungles of PNG?
Where is the best place to buy it: Europe, Australia or PNG?

Thanks for any advice!!

Muskol, up to 100% DEET. I think it's only available in Canada, though.

I have travelled a lot in PNG, including the Sepik, and have always used good old tropical strength Aeroguard. It is very effective and can be purchased from supermarkets in any town in PNG. Note you probably won't be able to get it in a village trade store, so make sure you buy some in Madang, Lae, Wewak or similar sized town.

Try Bushman's 80% DEET - Australian stuff.

Or, you can get RID in Australia or PNG (Deep Pink coloured plastic bottle, roll on, pump spray, aerosol or cream) - Tropical Strength.

Bushman's is better, RID is available.

If you run out and need something - wet tobacco (or brus - wild, dried tobacco) works for a time when rubbed onto the skin.

The best stuff, I've used it on over 14 trips to the South Pacific Buggspray

I used no name tropical strength roll on mosquito repellent that I bought at a Cairns supermarket.
