| pimouss23:46 UTC04 May 2007 | Hi
Do you know a cheap canoe tour on the sepik ?
Have anyone any idea where to go in PNG for best snorkel from the shore (so free) ?
Tufi / Alotau : I read on the lonely planet that in july it is windy, so not good for diving, but for windsurfing. Is that true ? Do you know if it is possible to rend windsurf (as we won't bring our boards and sails in the plane) ?
Thanks

I spent 6 days on the Sepik River in december 2006, but it was with a guide in a dinghie, with outboard motor. The trip was great, but not cheap.
I am sure if you got to one of the villages on the river, such as Pagwi, you could probably negotiate with a local to take you in his canoe. The down side of this is that travel in a canoe would be very slow, particularly if you are heading uostraem against the flow of the river. Pagwi is about 3 1/2 hours from Wewak by 4WD. there is a PMV that travels all night from wewak to Pagwi.
I also went to New Ireland - here is my trip report
In that report I give the details of the palces I stayed.
You can get good snorkelling from many beaches in New Ireland and New Britain. However, some of these sites have suffered significant damage and so to get really good coral you need to hire a boat and go off shore. In Kavieng I negotiated with a local to take me to some of the islands and had a really great day for about 10% of the cost of hiring a boat from the Nusa Island resort.
I have not seen any windsurfers for hire on my travels in PNG, but maybe someone else has.
Have a great trip.

Maybe they cater for day trips - it's 5 years since I was there.
