Ecotourism Melanesia

Country forums / Pacific Islands & Papua New Guinea / Papua New Guinea

Hi,
does anybody have experience with "Ecotourism Melanesia Ltd"? I am going to PNG this summer and I am looking for some guided tour-package at Kiriwina island.

Good morning from Milne Bay in Papua New Guinea. If you wish to visit the Trobriands I suggest you get in touch directly with the people who organise village stay programmes on the Trobriand Islands and contact Serah from Butia Lodge on the Trobs. She owns the Butia Lodge and her sister who runs it organises an excellent village stay programme. There are no organised tours on the islands. She is the paramount Chief's family so she is in an excellent position to assist. Her email is: malabu@online.net.pg With regards to airfares in, check out Airlines PNG for the best deals from Brisbane or Cairns to Port Moresby. (www.apng.com) and they also fly directly to the Trobriand Islands from Port Moresby. Alternatively, you can fly into Alotau and from there to the Trobs. Note also that direct flights from Cairns and Brisbane to Alotau are due to begin in April 2008 or soon after. Happy travelling, Gretta

Hi,

Friends of mine have used Ecitourism melanesia and give good reports.

However, my view is that you could save yourself a lot of money by following Grettak's advice and just getting yourself to the Trobs and contacting Butia Lodge. I have just come back from travelling around Milne Bay and found it easy to get around (mostly) and get guides at minimal cost. You should have no troble at Kirawina. My son went there for two weeks last year and travelled independently. He was immediately 'adopted' by a family who used their contacts to escort him around the island.
