Flights Out Of POMCountry forums / Pacific Islands & Papua New Guinea / Papua New Guinea
I am in the early stages of planning my first trip to PNG, in August. In looking at flights coming back from PNG, the best routing would have me leaving POM at 6:30 AM on a Niugini Pty flight to Brisbane and then continuing on to Los Angeles. The issue is that I would have only 90 minutes in Brisbane. In order for this work, the flight from PNG to Brisbane must depart and arrive on schedule. Can anyone provide insights on the reliability of early morning Niugini Pty flights? Thanks.
New Guinea... | 1 | |
ateday - Thanks. I guess that I knew that it didn't feel right but I appreciate your confirming it. On to Plan B. | 2
Air Niugini should be able to check you in on your onward flight when you check in in POM. 90 minutes is a lot better than the 60 minutes it used to be. I have taken the Brisbane - LA flight after arriving on the morning Air Niugini flight many times and I never missed it but it was always tight. My advice would be to take the risk. Just a few things though... Last time I did this I could not get a boarding pass in POM for my onward flight even though my bags were checked through. I had to go to the transfer desk in Brisbane and give them my address details for North America. Pretty simple process. The other thing is I can't see an Air Niugini flight departing POM for Brisbane at 0630. Have they changed the schedule? Edited by: PNGMangi | 3
new schedule from air ng,monday/sunday 6.30 departure pom.i would roll the dice and "expect the best",early flights out of moresby usually close to departure time.,unless politicians are running late!!it is a gamble with such a short time changeover?really up to you? | 4
From POM - no worries. Only issues I have heard of are from Hagen or other mountain towns as clouds can be a delay factor | 5
Thanks to all for your insights. I guess that I need to decide "Do you feel lucky?" I will probably come up with a Plan B. Perhaps a day or two in Brisbane would be an experience. Never been there. Thanks again1 | 6
You can never be sure, but the plane will have been on the ground overnight in POM, so at least you don't have the risk of late departures because of a late arrival from the previous flight. | 7
Brisbane International Terminal is relatively easy to negotiate, even if you arrive at one end and leave at the other. | 8
Having flown many times with Air Niugini I would never, repeat never have that tight a connection with a flight on another airline. If you have travel insurance that will cover you for any delays and costs incurred then I guess it would be okay but my advice would be to take a day out and have a look around Brisbane for a day/night. | 9
