Flights to Kavieng

Does anyone know if there are direct flights between Madang and Kavieng? Yesterday I checked the Air Niugini site for this route in February, and it said there were direct flights, but they were already full. (Does it really sell out that far in advance?) Today, I check again and it didn't even list a direct flight.

Are there any viable alternatives to Air Niugini? This is a trip for work, so waiting for a few days for a boat to leave is not really an option.

Have you checked flights from Lae?
I think there should be more, and it is only a couple of hours from Madang by road.

Off the top of my head, I don't think that there is but if you go to the Air Niuguni website, you can download their current schedule (till March 2010) in PDF format, then use "find" to search for (either) MAG or KVG and see if there are any direct flights between the two.

When we visited for ten weeks last year myself and a friend organised to fly direct from Madang to Kavieng only to find out the day before our flight was due to leave that quote,unquote "sorry sir you can't have booked that flight two months ago as it doesn't exit"... Needless to say it existed enough at the time I booked it for them to take my money!
We ended up having to fly (after many frustrated phone calls) Madang-Port Moresby-Kimbe-Rabaul-Kavieng... A much longer flight, but on the bright side at least we got to see the volcano in Rabaul...
Be very careful with Air Nuigini otherwise you will be Air Nuigini'd.Once you fly them you'll understand!

the only air ng flights to kvg go from moresby on friday and saturdays/via rabaul...px274.....what do you want to do in png for 5days????so short it cuts out most travel!!!

Oh no, the trip will be more like three weeks long. I agree, 5 days would be just silly.

So the Air Niuguni website says that one has to fly Madang to Port Moresby, then Port Moresby to Kavieng. It doesn't mention a stop in Rabaul. Is that something I should expect --for the plane to make stops that aren't listed in the itinerary?

AM-1974, I searched and searched the Air Ng site for a PDF schedule, but couldn't find it. Do you happen to have a link? Or maybe they took it off...

sorry bout he 5 days thing ,i was replying to two enqurys at same time,current air n.g schedule has the following flights to kavieng/via rabaul..all from port moresby...tuesday/friday/sat px274 at 2.55pm......sundaypx272...09.35am.if you go main airnew guinea site on net and hit schedules...then current schedule(oct 25th-march 27th)it should spit up details.you could go to rabaul from lae and then connect on another day to flight to kavieng...bit of sight see around kokopo?
