Flights to PNG from UKCountry forums / Pacific Islands & Papua New Guinea / Papua New Guinea
Hi | ||
Probably the cheapest option (from the advice of others on this board) is to get the cheapest filght you can to Brisbane, Australia, and an Airlines PNG flight from Brisbane to Port Moresby. | 1
Ozziegiraffe's advice sounds good (not that I know anything about PNG). You might like to try this website: beta.itasoftware.com. If you just put in e.g. LHR - PNG then it will probably be expensive, but if you experiment with the multi-city option and input each individual leg (e.g. London-Sydney-Brisbane-PNG) then it might come up with something good. Then you have to give the booking codes to a travel agent to actually book the flights. | 2
Only 2 airlines fly into PNG, Air Niugini & Airlines PNG. Air Niugini fly to/from Singapore, Hong Kong, Tokoyo, Manila, Brisbane & Cairns. Airlines PNG only Brisbane & Cairns. Airlines PNG is generally cheaper but Air Niugini offers discounts on their domestic flights if you fly internationally with them. So Air Niugini may end up cheaper if you want to do a lot of internal flying. Airlines PNG's domestic network is quite limited. | 3
Fab - thank you all very much for you advice - much appreciated. I'll get into investigating further. | 4
To keep costs down you could get a cheap Oasis flight to Hong Kong for a few hundred pounds and then buy an onward Air Niugini flight to Port Moresby. The excursion fare was about 350 pounds(HK$ 5400) when I checked a few months ago. There is only one flight per week from Hong Kong (Wednesday departure, Tuesday return). The Air Niugini contact in Hong Kong if you are interested is (852) 2527 7098 Rm 1901 19/F 16 Harcourt Road, Admiralty. You may find more frequent departures from Singapore and Manila and of course Australia as indicated above. | 5
To anyone coming across my posting above please disregard the reference to Oasis which is no longer in business. However the Air Niugini info is still valid but the price does not take into account fuel surcharges and taxes which should come to about HK$2000 . | 6
