Getting a PNG visa from Switzerland?

Country forums / Pacific Islands & Papua New Guinea / Papua New Guinea

Does anyone out there have any experience trying to get a PNG visa in Switzerland? I am living here in Switzerland but am planning a trip to Indonesia and PNG this summer. I would like to enter PNG overland from Indonesia, and it seems I need a PNG visa ahead of time for that. There's conflicting info on the web: the Aussie embassy here supposedly represents PNG and does visas, but their own website suggests getting one through the PNG embassies in the UK or Belgium. Any advice from seasoned PNG hands? Many thanks in advance!

not much to add except i think you are right - you do need a visa for overland entry
and you will have to get that in london or brussels (your nearest embassies) - try calling them

alternatives -

there is an embassy in jakarta - make that part of your trip and get a visa there

otherwise you can fly from DPS bali to POM once week on mondays with air niugini
and get visa on arrival

Thanks for the report. I was hoping for otherwise, but I feared this would be the answer. I didn't know, however, about the flight from Denpasar to Port Moresby, which might be useful. I will look into it.

couple of options, there is a png consulate located in jayapura, when i was last there it was located in entrop,5kms from central jayapura, they have the tendancy to be very slow in processing(5-7 days)some countries cannot apply for png visa there.....switzerland should be fine?cost was about 300,000 rupiah(30usd)it may have gone up.
the once a week flight on air new guinea departs bali on monday nights late, arrival into pom at 05.00 am,
return trip will set you back around 870usd!!!
would try and ring consul in jayapura(if they bother to answer the phone)
