Good beach resort in PNG? Or West Papua?

Country forums / Pacific Islands & Papua New Guinea / Papua New Guinea

We'll be with a tour group in PNG for 12 days in August. We have about 4 days after the tour finishes to chill out somewhere and we'd like it to be on a GREAT beach. Maybe somewhere close to a good dive site... Does anyone have any suggestions in PNG, West Papua, Indonesia, or perhaps another nearby island? Looking for quiet, nice accommodations, and good food. Thanks.

If all you have is 4 days, it should be reasonably close to wherever your tour ends.
Forget Indonesia - it has no direct flight connections from PNG, so you'd use up 2 of your 4 days just to get there and back.

We can finish in either Tari or Port Morsbey.

Can't imagine they will leave you in Tari. It is the end of the road. Easiest from POM is Loloata Island a short boat trip from POM. That said, the best beaches are in New Ireland or Bougainville. New Ireland from POM is your best bet but 4 days here goes fast! Good Luck!

Was in Wewak (Sundaun province) lately, where nearby islands Kairiru and Mushu blew my mind. Kairiru is a tropic paradise but not too much for swimming as well as too basic for diving. Mushu offers you great swimming and beaches without sandflies!!! Contact there Mathew Mando at rainubeach.lodge@gmail.com for more info.
Good luck!
