Country forums / Pacific Islands & Papua New Guinea / Papua New Guinea

Hi , thinking about going to Goroka show next year as ive left it a bit late, this year, accomodation wise. thinking maybe next year. Any body know of some good cheap places to stay? i am also looking for a travelling companion(s). I know the area , as I went to school there from 79-81. any info appreciated

Hi. I stayed in the sports institute when I went to the goroka show in 2006. It was good. very handy as right next to the showground, but not so good if you want to be able to get into town at night. I had friends who enjoyed staying in the lutheran guest house which I think was better located for the town after dark. The sports institute had some pretty last minute rooms last year, so if you still wanted to try to go this year you could always try them. Whenever you go you'll love it. It's fantastic.

I stayed at the Lutheran Guesthouse in May 2007 and would highly recommend it: clean, quiet, friendly staff, great meals, great location. The water pipes were loud in the evening but the noise stopped by 9:30pm. I agree with #1 - PNG is a wonderful place.
