Goroka Show and getting from Goroka to Madang

I am travelling to Papa New Guinea in September to see the Goroka Show and have accommodation sorted at the Lutheran Guesthouse.
I was wondering if it is necessary or worth having a guide for the Goroka Show itself - i have been quoted 450 Kina per day by Goroka Trek and Tours. Not sure if the show can be viewed comfortably independently, or whether it is better to have a guide to explain cultural aspects?

After the show I am going to Madang to do some diving and was planning to travel by PMV - has anyone done this trip recently? Is it easy, safe to do so? Do PMVs leave frequently from Goroka to Madang? What time do they start leaving?
