Goroka to Madang

Country forums / Pacific Islands & Papua New Guinea / Papua New Guinea

Hi, I’m thinking of going to PNG for about a week. Never been there before. I’d like to visit Goroka and Madang.

This website http://diversionoz.com/en/png-madang.htm, which is mostly about diving, makes the throw-away comment: “Or take a four day guided hike through pristine landscapes from Madang to the Eastern Highland town of Goroka. (The other way round is preferable as it is down hill!)”

Walking from Goroka to Madang sounds interesting (I’d prefer the downhill way). Has anyone done it? Is it a practical/sensible idea?

Thanks in advance for any comments.

Hey Matt,

I've heard about this trip too from Goroka to Madang and sounds pretty awesome and there is also the possibility to climb Mt Wilhelm instead.
Not sure when you are heading there but any information you pick after going would be great...we are planning on spending a month travelling round in june-july.

Thank you lots,

K

Hi - well I was hoping to go in early May, but it looks like work will get in the way and I'll have to postpone it. But if I do make it before I go, I'll certainly pass on anything useful.

All the best
