How to contact handcraft/art dealers in PNG ?

Country forums / Pacific Islands & Papua New Guinea / Papua New Guinea

Hello people,

i'm looking for native PNG art&crafts dealers,
how i can find them without visiting the place?
May be somebody have any ideas about it or know somebody who can help ?
Is it in Port Moresby any shops or persons with authentic wooden sculptures etc..?

Warmest regards from Europe,
i will be gratefull to anykind of help and information!

I just happen to be on Woodlark Island in the Louisiades which is part of PNG. It may be marked Muyua on your map - but if you Google Woodlark or use Google Earth you'll find it OK - East of Port Moresby by some 600km. The island people produce some unique black and striped ebony carvings. Contact me and I'll send some photos of the types of carvings available.

I know an English woman in Wewak, Susan Baker, who sort of acts as an agent for villagers on the Sepik to sell their art. Here is the address for her web site. - Lost Frontier Arts.

She has a great collection, whihc is always changing and I know that she has the best interests of the villagers at heart. Check her out

PNG Art is THE place to go for artifacts in Port Moresby. They have a huge range of stuff from all over PNG and their prices are very good. They will ship your goods overseas for you and arrange fumigation if required.
Phone: 675-325-3976
Fax: 675-325-7809
I think they have e-mail but I don't have the address handy. No website.

Susan Baker has left Wewak and is now living overseas.

There is an art and craft website linked at www.wantok.net.pg
