| penso14:03 UTC27 May 2007 | hello
in a very short time, ill be in vietnam. im looking for opportunities to get from vietnam (possibly singapore, kuala lumpur, whatever, im flexible) to jayapura (papua, indonesia) or even better, straight into papua new guinea by flight (without having to fly to australia first). one papua new guinea airline provides a singapore connection to port moresby, which is expensive. do you know any cheap ways? there's a few pelni ferrys / ships trough indonesia i think... but yeah, i hope you can help me... what would you recommend???
thank you very very much for your help

Be aware that the latter voyage takes a whole week! From Jayapura, you can continue to PNG overland - see the PNG link in my signo line for more on that.

im not sure if im right, but it seems that most png visitors are accessing from port moresby over cairns oder brisbane. im now having two contacts in png, one is in port moresby, the other one between jayapura and the border.
what is your personal opinion. - travelling in png on my own (as a thirdworldcountry newbie)... do you think i sort of necessarily need another person with me? - if yes, do you reckon it might be easy to find people (on the way in indonesia, ferry, jayapura, border) to travel with for a while?
ill probably have a companion, who is entering from port moresby, so i would have to meet him first...
cheers penso

Even West Papua doesn't get many tourists, and PNG gets fewer still. The relatively high costs keep backpackers away.

ill have to copy the pelni routemap in LP indonesia as i didnt find the routemap on the homepage.
i thought it might be hard to find people to travel with. ill be in vietnam for quite a while and, if i still find time, get to png in the end of august. i told myself i wanna get to papua new guinea at least one in my lifetime, even if its only for one week, so its just sort of dream. hope i can realize it.
