in and out of PNG

Country forums / Pacific Islands & Papua New Guinea / Papua New Guinea

I've been using this forum and it's grate! thank you!

I do have one small question about PNG.

I plan to enter PNG by flight from Crains.
The flight i want lands in POM at 13:25, but the continue flight i want to take to Mt Hegan leaves at 14:30. is that enough time? will i make it for my next flight?
I've been recommended to ask that my luggage will be sent all the way to Mt Hegan, but it is with 2 different airlines (first with Airniugini and second with Airlines PNG), so it may not be possible... and i do not want to spend any time in Port Moresby.
dose anyone have any experience in POM airport? any chance i make it?

I also posted a separate question about it because it regards Indonesia, but it has to do with PNG to, so i'll add it here to...

Once i'm in Indo, i'm thinking of visiting East Timor, but because i leave Indo i will need a new visa (which takes about a week in East Timor), so i wanted to know if there is and "double entree visa" for Indonesia, and if so, is it possible to get one at the Vanimo-Jayapura crossing.

Thank you very much!!!

UPDATE!!!!!
I found a flight at 15:15 which gives me almost 2 hours!
Is it enough.....?
Thank you again!

bon, have tried to get my head around your post including timor leste, firstly you cannot have your luggage forwarded,as you must do immigration/customs at pom, which includes luggage check by customs at international airport.from numerous trips i have done from the time you touch down and the time you step out of customs takes about 40minutes....getting a connection all depends on whether your plane is on time?and anyone who has ever travelled to png will tell you that is rare.i would say the schedule you are looking at is too tight and could lead to tears.i presume the flights you are now looking at are both air new guinea flights?cns-pom.pom-hgu?may i suggest for less stress you look at the monday morning airlines png flight out of cairns at 06.15am....then the airlines png flight up to hagen at 13.00.....it gives you great options if the first flight is late?if you want to kill some time and chill out, catch the airways hotel courtesy bus outside the terminal and grab some brekky at the airways, they will drop you back at domestic.
the indonesian visa is a single entry 30 day visa issued at the indonesian consul in vanimo....takes 24 hours and last time i got one was 80kina.
the next bit is where i am confused as what you are trying to do........i think you want to go to timor leste from bali?and you will get timor leste v.o.a at dili airport for 30 usd,if you plan then to go to west timor(indonesia)you will then need a new indonesia visa issued at the consulate in dili, takes about 5 days.
if i have got your plans wrong apologies, hope this clears your qs.....any other qs drop me a pm.

Hi there.

Correct... you will need to collect your bags off the Air Niugini flight, go through Customs, and then go and check in at the APNG checkin counter at the Domestic terminal. The earlier timing you had was cutting things a bit too fine I reckon, but with 2 hrs spare you should be fine.

Remember you will also need to do passport processing, which can take a while too. There is a bit to be said for getting off the plane quickly and towards the front of the line at the Moresby immigration counters.

Cheers
Kruegs

Hey guys!

alocon, thank you for enlightening me about what is going on in East Timor.
I have a friend (local) from PNG who works with the government and is updating me about what is going on there.

don and kruegs, i have been told that because both of my flights are airniugini, they will "take care" of me and speed me up threw the line because i have the connecting flight, so i am optimistic :)

About the visa.
Lets hope that all goes well and East Timor will stay safe for traveling, i will be trying to get a double entry visa for Indo (i may be able to get an "invitation"), and if it wont work out, i'll just have to come back some other time for East Timor! hahaha

Thank you again for your replies!
