Is papua new guinea inhabited by cannibals?Country forums / Pacific Islands & Papua New Guinea / Papua New Guinea
i heard they still exist there so is it true or not?
They exist, but they made a deal with Lonely Planet not to eat anyone who registered on this TT before November 12, 2007. So, if you registered before then you are safe. When did you register??? | 1
I would be more concerned about the raskols in Port Moresby. | 2
yes they all moved from the jungles of the southern highlands, chartered a flight to port moresby and now work as security guards at asian supermarkets in geheru and boroko!bee careful | 3
I asked my PapuaNewGuinean friend whether he liked children or not. His response was "Yes, but I could never eat a whole one....' snort | 4
Don't know about PNG but here is an obviously true story about cannibals in French Polynesia. Scroll down and begin reading in the middle of Chapter 17: "It turns out that their favorite food is Seventh Day Adventists." "The natives kill the Gendarmes, eat them, and then disappear into the dense trackless jungle. When the French sent in troops, they too disappeared. Dinner." | 5
Seventh Day Adventists are vegetarian.... Ironically amusing. | 6
Carnivores are known to taste badly. Herbivores / Vegetarians taste better! Keep that in mind when choosing travel companions. | 7
In the Cooks, there's a very popular T-shirt with a picture of a very large cooking pot over a fire and some smiling locals standing next to it. The phrase under it is: "Please send more tourists. The last batch were delicious!" | 8
The truth as i know it; There are still cannibalism present in West Papua, and it only occurs when a warrior kills an enemy - and he gains his powers and mana from eating him. So they DO NOT KILL people FOR FUN, or even "as a normal thing to get food" - They only eat enemies, most of this cannibalism occurs when its wartime between two tribes. But in Papua New Guinea? Could be found probably near the West Papua border, or somewhere in deep jungle.. This one, i don't know for sure. -J | 9
No it isn't. I am not one, neither is anyone else that I know. Just like Fiji, we have had a colourful past that is well and truly past. I am from PNG and am sitting in PNG right now. That'll be about as accurate as it gets. | 10
Then there is the old joke about the Catholic missionaries....When they were captured one faction of the tribe wanted to boil and then eat them. The were overruled by the opposition who claimed that this was impossible because the missionaries were friars........homesteader | 11
ROFL!! | 12 | |
Dear everyone, this is 21st century and neither of what you saying is practiced here. Papua New Guinea is a Christian country and the message of Love & Peace is spreaded everywhere in Papua New Guinea and even including the jungles of Southern Highlands. Yes, just like anywhere else on earth, we have little greed driven 'pocket pickers' in the cities and towns and that's you gonna be careful. Otherwise stop being prejudice and stop that habbit of passing bad image about another ethnic group around. If you are Papua New Guineans and Australians replying to such thread, speak truth and be honest in what you saying. FYI (for those who wish to know), Southern Highlands housed the famous Huli wigman!!!!!!Come experience our way!!!! ,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,True Souths Pawa............. | 13
Is there a twelve step program for cannibals? | 14
lol | 15 | |
Haha... Ben in Wewak who arranges trips up Sepik told me that he is frequently contacted by tourists who asks to "see cannibals". He usually sets them straight, but he told me of one particularily persistent Canadian film ""documentary film maker" who just wouldn't listen to reason or take no for an answer. He wanted to pay big bucks to "go way up the river" to see "the Cannibals". So Ben told me he was considering tha that time talking some villagers into a bit of "theather" to please this particular client. He and his friends were all greatly amused by the prospect and laughed alot when they told me about the possibilities. | 16
what about this article then?is it false? | 17
Do you seriously believe someone called Hank Hyena? | 18
When I was in West Papua, people were dying mysteriously in a local village. The inhabitants suspected the shaman of the neighboring village. They captured him and ate him. The deaths stopped. Yes, there are still cannibals, but as suggested in the previous post, it is practiced for ritualistic reasons, not as a food source. | 19
