Island time

Country forums / Pacific Islands & Papua New Guinea / Papua New Guinea

Hello!
I am travelling to PNG next July and will be spending time doing to Kogodo trail and Sepik. For my last stop i am looking for a beach holiday where i can chill, snorkel, kayak and also see any local villages. I was initially thinking New Ireland a,staying at Nusa island resort, with side trip down the Boluminski Highway, Kavieng and neighbouring islands. Other possibilities are New britain Rabaul and Kokopo with trips to the duke of york islands and MtMt Tarvurvur. Or Milne bay.
Which of these are the most beautiful in terms of the beaches/water and which have the most interesting sights close by?
Cheers
Juliet

if you really just want to chill - fish snorkel kayak and hang out with locals then i would say nusa island
i wouldnt spend too much time on the main island of new ireland - its a bit ordinary compared to the other places
you are visiting

rabaul is great - lots to do in one location - the volcano, the buried town, WW2 relics, beaches, reefs etc - if you want
a more relaxed island life then the duke of york islands are meant to be great ( i have not been there myself) - but all this
may be too busy if you just want to chill

milne bay has much less going on

if you want to save time and money then there are various islands off the coast at wewak whcuh have good reviews - seacrh here and on trip advisor forum for more info

Do in this order. Wewak, then Kakoda Track from Owens Corner to Kakoda (Poppondetta) then you are quite near to Tufi where there is excellent diving, kayaking and accommodation . Accommodation in hotel or village guest houses.

Thanks so much for your replies guys! I think i will probably be ready to chill after kokoda and sepik.
I am also finding things to do in Rabaul quite expensive-as i am a solo female traveller i prefer to do guided trips . Which would you say is the more beautiful-in terms of beaches and reefs etc- New Britain or New Ireland?
Cheers
