| rdem06:55 UTC07 Sep 2007 | Hi, I have plan to stay about 5 weeks in PNG and I would like to have your feedback on my trip, if I have not enought time or maybe miss some place :
Pt Moresby 1 week trekking : Kokoda or Bulldog or Blackcat trek Rabaul 3-4 days Woitape few days ??? note sure yet Pt Moresby-Goroka : 3-4 days around Goroka Goroka-Madang by PMV : 1-2 days around Madang Madang-Simbai : 3-4 days around Simbai Simbai-Madang-Tari : 3-4 days around Tari Tari-Madang-Wabag/Enga : 3-4 days around Enga Wabag/Enga- Madang-Wewak : 1 week Sepik river Wewak-Vanimo then West papua
I looked on the Niugini & air PNG web site, and most of the flights are from Port Moresby. So maybe if will have to do Madang- Pt Moresby-Tari rather than Madang-Tari . Do you know if there are there other air companies or do I have to use Port Moresby are my base camp ? Maybe MAF? Do you have any advices on hotel in Port Moresby? I find a post which recommend Confort Inn? Others advices?
And if you have any suggestions on place to go, local guides to contact on the difference places I will go…
Many thanks for your help.
Richard

| deano09:47 UTC13 Sep 2007 | Hi there,
Nice trip. There are no Madang - Tari flights. However since you are going to Simbai there is a Hagen - Simbai MAF flight. Island Airways flies to Simbai from Madang.
From Hagen you could catch an MAF onto Tari and save returning to POM. Incidentally - how did you hear about Simbai? Not many people know of this villiage.
If those connections work out I'm not sure. The flights into and out of Simbai are only weekly (or there abouts). Once in the the highlands you can travel by PMV (check safety beforehand. I travelled during elections and it was pretty safe even then) which is faster than flying back to POM, getting delayed (as you usually do) and flying out again.
Cheers

Comfort Inn in Boroko - email comfortinn@daltron.com.pg
Weigh Inn which is almost in Town, close to Andersons Supermarket - weighinn@global.net.pg
Shady Rest in Three Mile, has a good restaurant - reservations@shadyrest.com.pg
Check out the prices these places charge - I think they will be okay as far as Port Moresby goes.
In Madang you could stay at CWA House - it is clean, has a good kitchen and is reasonably priced (K50 per night). You should book ahead if possible, as it is very popular.
