Itinerary suggestions for PNG march and April?

Country forums / Pacific Islands & Papua New Guinea / Papua New Guinea

I will be flying into port moresby next week spectacularly unprepared. Had planned to be in yemen these days after wandering madagascar and with the situation in Yemen had to detour. Figured might as well see another one of my dream hit list. I will have between 3-5 weeks and then hopefully cross over to Indonesia. I know I won't be able to see everything and that I will be coming back so I don't want to overdo things and not be able to soak up the atmosphere. Diving, birds of paradise, hiking, sepik, mud men, art are all of interest just wonder if people have experience traveling in this season and if weather, rough seas, diving visibility ect would make certain areas better for another trip. Happy roughing it and used to uncomfortable transport but have budgeted for a flight or two.

I'm flying thru austrailia as this forum recommended so will have a few days with actual working wifi to do some research that wasn't really possible before but would certainly appreciate any tips from people with experience.
If anyone will be traveling in this time I'm happy to meet up.
Thanks in advance

plenty of advice here and on the tripadvisor forum - there are several trip reports here including mine - we have now been to PNG twice each time for a month

dont worry about the weather - it is so varable especially on the north coast and islands - there is no dry season just a wet and a wetter one (which is now but coming to an end)

the land transfer to/from indo needs careful research for sure - several good posts on that

In case you are not aware New guinea can be a dangerous destination especially for a lone traveller. Be sure to check out the Aust Govts travel advisories.
It's quite a few years now since I was there but still look upon the country as one the worlds last true frontiers. It's also very very expensive.
