Jayapura to port morsby

Hi there,
I am looking at going from Jayapura to Port Morsby on the north coast.,
Then Port morsby to Brisbane. I will only have about three weeks. Would you consider that time frame to be do-able with ferries and a few flights or am I kidding myself. To tell the truth I am probably just looking for alternative routes home to Brisbane avoiding Bali
Would I have to book the flights early and is this section of travel possible on a smallish budget. Also what are your tips please regards which town to stop in and frequency of ferries etc.
