Kokoda

Am planning Kokoda trip mid/late August. I know you can hire a guide in Kokoda, Owers corner, Popendetta or through Kokoda Track Authority. Are there companies there or is it a case of just finding someone?

Is it likely that others be looking for guides at the same time? I'd much rather go with a group but don't want to book overseas and pay A$3,000.
