Kokoda

Hi,

I'm about to book a 155km, 10 day Kokoda trek for August 2009 and am scared about how fit you have to be?

Has anyone done it before and what level of fitness is really necessary?

I'm 24, quite fit (i.e. run a lot) but hills and trekking i know is different - and Kokoda is something else again!!!

If anyone has done it and can give me their thoughts it'd be greatly appreciated!

Cheers!

Cas.

and the company is was looking at booking with is Adventure Kokoda.

Any feedback/help/assistance would be great!!

Thanks.

Note that high heartbeat rate sports background doesn't help in low heartbeat rate activities like trekking. Many of my friends run a lot, but whenever they come to take a long intensive walk with me, they get loss of breath and complain...

I'd say that to prepare, walk a lot, and walk fast and long trips.

Hi Leanna, am looking at doing the Kokoda trail. Did you do much investigation on other tours? Why did you pick Adventure Kokoka to use? I see the cost is $5000 min out of Sydney, is that right?

Sorry to ask so many questions but I would love to do this but don't want to spend a fortune as I want to do the Great Wall of China at some point in the next 12 mths too!

Cheers
Dave from Melbourne...

I've just come back from Kokoda. A young fit person will find this difficult at times but well do-able. Depending on where you are coming from (presumably Oz?) your main obstacle will be the humidity, though this wasn't a problem for me having come from the much humider Hong Kong.
