Kokoda Track

Country forums / Pacific Islands & Papua New Guinea / Papua New Guinea

I would like to find out what months would be the best time to walk the Kokoda Track. Im female, 53 reasonable level of fitness although carrying too much weight. Can you enlighten me as to what companies you have used or individual groups who have done this Track.

Went on the track in April/May last year (Anzac Day at Isurava). We had a 51 yo female in our group with a reasonable level of fitness who had no problem (prior to diarrhea - but anybody could get that).

As to the best time, don't really know. We had quite a bit of rain, but you get used to it. Also had a bit of heat, but you get used to that as well.

Went through Kokoda Trekking Limited (KTL) and would highly recommend them. Very experienced and professional personnel. I plan to do it again, but not until 2010 now (new baby has delayed a few trips), and will use them again. The fact they have a 4WD at the end to take you to town and not have to walk another 15 km when were finished is good enough for me :)
