Kokoda Track weather in late October?

Hi to those of you I already admire who have completed the Kokoda Track. I will be walking it with a tour group which includes my brother and his mate and my friend fom Perth. Just wondering what the weather will be like - how much rain, how deep will the water be in the rivers (which ones) and how deep will the mud be? Are long or short gaitors best? Any other tips most welcome! :) I am a Mum who is 52 and will turn 53 on the track - My father served in Milne Bay PNG during WW2 so it will be an emotional trip for me - I have been to PNG twice before, once travelled by PMV to the Highlands (Honeymoon) and the year after spent white water rafting the Watut River.
