KOKODA TRAIL

Country forums / Pacific Islands & Papua New Guinea / Papua New Guinea

Gidday,

I'm looking at doing the Kokoda Track alone as the tour companies seem to cost more than I want to pay. I hear you can hire your own guide who can show you whole lot more, have more flexibility and go at your own pace.

Anyone done this and can give advice on how to arrange own accommodation, tent sites along the track etc.

I figure I can reduce the cost to a third of what the tour companies charge.

Would also be happy to trekk with others who want to do it on the cheap.

Cheers

Myself and 8 of my friends did exactly what you're after. We ditched the tour groups, got our ow guides and saved over $1000 each doing it this way and had just a good experience as other people who have done it with a tour. (Mind you we're current/ex army so we knew the military history of the track) Let me know if I can help you out please.
