| pitta16:45 UTC24 Mar 2011 | Hi, has anybody stayed / been there rather recently? Your impressions are highly welcome! Any known e-mail adress for reservation (I have a phone no., which I might try)? Any realistic chance to go there by public transport (e.g. vehicle to Sogeri)? Is it far to walk into Varirata NP for early morning birding, or do they have cars at the motel? Cheers, Henning

The birdlife is just amazing, and more accessible than in West Papua. Tari is an absolute must - I saw 7 or 8 species of BOP there in a day, including male ribbon-tailed, prince of saxony, parotia, raggiana, blue (this one displaying - a true marvel!) as well as another astrapia and a sicklebill... As for Varirata, note that it may be a bit too close to POM for security to be an issue.

| pitta11:11 UTC28 Mar 2011 | Hi Lazlo, thanks for the information. Tari definitely is included in my itinerary :-) I am aware of the security issue around PoM. On the other hand, birding trip reports and other contributions in the web do not give me any evidence, that really something bad has happened to tourists in Varirata. Or do you have other information? Best regards, Henning

| Laszlo02:03 UTC05 Apr 2011 | About 5 years ago. Stayed at the Warili GH just below Ambua Lodge and used their guide. Can't remember his name, but he was good, VERY reasonably priced, and the Blue BOP was leking in his garden!

| phenelbaxt09:43 UTC12 Jul 2011 | Hi Henning, Did you manage to get to that area? I am searching for information about a nice place to stay in next to Varirata national park for 2-3 nights next month - so, if anyone can share some insights about the places to stay at Sogeri road- kokoda trail hotel/ bluff inn motel/ sogeri lodge, it'll be great....
many thanks, H.

| pitta11:47 UTC09 Aug 2011 | Hi, I spent 2 nights in Kokoda Trail Motel. 175 Kina a night. Room small but OK. Restaurant available mornings and evenings. The walk up to Varirata NP is 1 hour (without bird watching). Bluff Inn and Sogeri are too far away from Varirata for walking, then you could better stay in POM. Cheers, Henning
