So I am gearing up for my second trip into PNG - first was in 2002! I am planning on going back in 2009 - I will be diving mainly, but looking to throw in a bit of top side too Because the diving dictates, I will need to be in Tufi at the end of April My destinations planned are Rabaul Is this as good a way of doing it - in that order? I am thinking of doing the travel internally by air. I see Rabaul to be 7 days, Tari about 3/4, Tufi about 5, Bootless about 5 I am also wondering if March & April I would be able to get into the Sepik. I am wondering if travel would be possible in either Middle or Upper? And if I could go to the Sepik at this time of year - where would I put that into the trip. After Rabaul & before Tari? Thanks in advance for your thoughts. Edited by: globaltourist
Hi There, I have seen your comments asking about Rabaul. Im a local resident ( & fellow traveller) & I have a small house in kokopo new town, ready now for offering rental accomodation to all backpackers & tourists alike when they come to visit Rabaul & the surrounding area It is situated a 5mins walk to all local services -bank, internet cafe, post office, hospital, travel centre & Rabaul central market (Kokopo new town) so perfect for setting up base I can offer assistance in arrangeing travel plans and give local advice on the local area along with arranging transfers to & from the airport if need be. Should you need to further enquire I can be contacted on the following.........melliemari@yahoo.com.au or by telephone (within PNG) 982 80 25 or Mobile 67 99 503 or to the local tourist information agent, "New Britain Tourist bueareu " I look forward to you coming to Rabaul and enjoying the local area, Mellie Mari | 1
Mellie Well thank you for that - I have already made arrangements with regards to diving, which is my principal reason for coming to Rabaul, & therefore would rather be on site with the dive operation - allowing me to roll outof bed, have all my kit there with me on site, & not have to worry about having something to eat & then transfering from my accommodation to my dive op. at the start & end of each diving day. But thank you for the info & I shall make a note of it & carry it with me in case there are any unforseen circumstances. Very much looking forward to returning to Rabaul & hope there's a chance to find some familiar faces. | 2
