living with a tribe in sepik river/mt hagen-can anyone help?

Country forums / Pacific Islands & Papua New Guinea / Papua New Guinea

Hello,

My name is Ohad 33, from israel. I arrive to Papua New Guinea In early August, for a three-and-a-half-week trip. My general plan is to be in a festival or two and also to live for couple of days with some tribe in the Sepik river, and also in mt hagen area.

So first of all, if there is anyone who wants to join, you can contact me here. I am also open to suggestions. I want to explore, discover different cultures .. languages. Less interested in being with a guide in something organized.

Another thing, is there a anyone who was PNG and stayed with a tribe for a few days and could recommendon on this tribe? That is, a tribe that is also interesting and especially hospitable and that allows you to stay with them for a few days ..

Thanks

Ohad

3 1/2 weeks is a good time to have some adventures in PNG - you can find many tribal people still living
traditional lives and holding traditional beliefs

read the trip reports here - even if a few years old such as mine on a month in png - they will give you a good
idea of what to expect

festivals are fun - here is the calendar

http://www.papuanewguinea.travel/eventscalendar

note that the large number of participants and tourists put huge strain on transport and accommodation and it can be difficult if you have not booked everything months ahead of time

i see you have also posted on the tripadvisor forum - there are good posts on there as well
